Planned Parenthood Bullies Susan G. Komen Into Compromise

Susan G. Komen for the Cure is an organization that advocates breast cancer awareness and research. They call themselves “the global leader of the breast cancer movement.” That fact is undeniable. However, another fact is undeniable: that for years, one of Komen’s grant recipients is also the nation’s largest abortion provider: Planned Parenthood.

By funding Planned Parenthood, Susan G. Komen is proving itself to be hypocritical. Planned Parenthood may provide breast cancer screenings, but according to the Breast Cancer Prevention Institute, dozens of studies have shown an association between the abortion and cancer. So essentially, even if Komen grants are allocated to breast cancer screenings, that leaves that much more room in Planned Parenthood’s budget to provide abortions, putting more women at risk of breast cancer.

In fact, a friend of mine, a cancer survivor herself, cringes when she’s asked to donate to breast cancer research because she knows that her money goes to an organization that fund abortions. So when she found out on February 1, 2012 that Susan G. Komen for the Cure had decided to pull funding from Planned Parenthood due to the fact that they are under federal investigation, both of us rejoiced that we could finally give money to Komen with a clear conscience!

I was especially glad to finally be able to buy those pink pens with pink ribbons…

However, outraged pro-abortion advocates began donating thousands of dollars to Planned Parenthood as a result. And on today, February 3, 2012, came the announcement from Susan G. Komen that they were reversing their decision to pull funding from Planned Parenthood.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure had an opportunity to prove that they were indeed pro-women and pro-life, but in the end they let us down- the very women and children they claim to protect. And my cancer-free friend is let down- she thought she could finally buy pink Susan G. Komen merchandise with pride. We should never have to choose between protecting life and promoting breast cancer awareness. Shame on you, Komen Foundation, for compromising and giving in!

Please contact Susan G. Komen for the Cure and let them know that you disapprove of funding the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood by calling them at: 1-877-465-6636.
